The Southern Alps quickly became one of my favourite spots in New Zealand, especially from within Mount Cook National Park. However, as you drive the West Coast of New Zealand you can get great views from the other side, but I had always been blocked by clouds. One day as I was shooting a reflection on a lake, I noticed the clouds beginning to part as the sun was setting. I changed to my telephoto lens and zoomed in for a closer shot, where I captured the fleeting light on Mount Tasman with both high and low clouds framing the peak. I was not only ecstatic that I finally saw sunset over the Southern Alps from the West Coast, but that clouds formed perfectly to enhance the scene.
